Dr. Delma Ramos has spent over 15 years helping doctoral students and early-career professionals find clarity in academic and career decisions that often feel overwhelming. Her insight comes from experience on both sides of the table: as a first-generation scholar who understands what it takes to navigate higher education, and as the leader institutions turned to when they needed to enhance doctoral programs.
At the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she did exactly that: led curricular innovation and helped launch a fully online doctoral track, while directing two doctoral programs, chairing and co-chairing more than 15 dissertations, and teaching and mentoring doctoral and master's students across courses focused on research methods, theoretical frameworks, scholarly writing, organizational theory, experiences of diverse students in college, leadership, and crisis management. Her excellence in teaching and mentoring earned her the NASPA Mena Valdez Outstanding Faculty Award in 2022.
She is an expert in qualitative and mixed-methods research, with a research agenda that has produced more than 40 publications using asset-based frameworks to study what actually helps first-generation students of color and other underrepresented students succeed.
Before higher ed administration, she worked in policy research too, at RAND Corporation, the College Board, the American Council on Education, and the Colorado Department of Higher Education, so she understands both the classroom and the systems around it.
She brings that full range of expertise- doctoral mentorship, graduate advising, leadership coaching, qualitative and mixed-methods research design, and program development- to clients directly. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she works with people who are navigating a doctoral program, building an academic career, or trying to figure out their next move, and helps them get unstuck without losing sight of what they're actually trying to build.
